The Truth About Sunscreen and Vitamin D

Episode #40 / Jul 7, 2009
OTHER VERSIONS:
We need all of our vitamins to stay healthy, but some articles in the press recently have surmised that sunscreen blocks Vitamin D creation. Dr. Schultz will get to the bottom of this theory and share whether or not it has any merit.

i think i can get also a vitamin.D by exposing myself during morning at 8 or 9am ...

@Maria: For people who desire sun induced Vitamin D production, I am not averse to 10 - 15 minutes of unprotected sun exposure on a daily basis early in the morning or late in the afternoon. That being said, I still prefer everyone use sunscreen whenever they're exposed to the sun because it's not likely that people get Vitamin D deficiencies on the basis of sun protection.
